Mandrin is a connection-based collective of student engineers, forming its founding cohort now. We work across ML systems and systems & graphics. Membership is selective by design.

Mandrin exists because campus had no serious space for ML systems and systems & graphics work. We're small, new, and selective. Applications for the founding cohort are open now.
The founding cohort will add a handful more. We keep the group tight so every member gets real attention and real collaborators.
Membership is by application and interview. We're looking for genuine engagement with a space — not credentials or polished portfolios.
Nothing is planned yet. Once members are in place, projects form around shared interest. The work follows the people, not the other way around.
We focus on a small set of spaces where the work is hard and the feedback is honest. You apply to one. Projects form within each space once the cohort is set.
Training infrastructure, kernels, and distributed systems for ML.
Not model-prompting — the engineering underneath. Custom kernels, autograd internals, distributed training, inference serving. Math meets systems.
Languages and runtimes — and the graphics that run on the GPU.
Build the layers other people write on top of, and the visuals that prove you understand them: parsers, codegen, kernels, shaders, ray marchers, compute pipelines.
Need something built? Our members take on a few paid client projects a year — well-scoped work in the spaces we know best.
We keep the process short and the feedback honest. Apply, get reviewed, talk with us, hear back — with an answer either way.
Tell us your background, which space interests you, and what you would want to work on. Signal over presentation — no portfolio polish required.
We look for genuine interest and evidence you have engaged with the space — a project, a course, a problem you have been stuck on. Not credentials.
A discussion about a real problem in your chosen space, not a whiteboard round. This is where we both decide if it is a fit.
We reply with a yes or no and specific feedback either way. If it is a fit, you join the founding cohort.

Any college student who builds or wants to build — engineers, designers, researchers. There is no CS-degree requirement.
The Collective is the selective, free group you apply to. Studio is opt-in paid client work that members can take on. The R&D Club is a free, student-led club open to every branch.
The Collective and the R&D Club are free. Studio is paid work, not a fee — members are paid for it. Some workshops are paid and priced separately.
We meet weekly, online-first. Beyond that you build on your own project between sessions — the more you put in, the more you get out.
